Answering service for accountants and tax firms
Julius Answer by DealsFlow picks up your firm's phone through tax season and after hours. It asks new callers what they need help with and how they heard about you, books the consultation as a request, and flags a filing deadline in the next day or two as urgent.
Updated
In brief
- Answers 24/7 and books consultations into open times, each held as a request until you approve it with one tap.

- Treats a filing deadline in the next day or two as urgent.
- Never gives tax or financial advice. Caller details stay out of email summaries by default.

Why tax season overwhelms a small firm's phone
From January to April, calls to a tax practice arrive in the same few weeks when preparers have the least time to answer them. The questions repeat: are you taking new clients, what should I bring, what does a return cost, is mine done yet.
Calling people back later is less reliable than it sounds. In an August 2026 analysis of 16.7 million missed calls on its platform, Quo found that professional-services businesses returned only 33% of them within 48 hours; Quo's customers aren't a random sample, so treat the figure as a signal rather than an average. And a callback may not get through: Hiya's State of the Call 2026, a survey of more than 12,000 consumers in six countries, found that 86% of calls from unknown numbers go unanswered.
An AI receptionist gives every caller the same first conversation, whether they ring at 10 a.m. in the second week of April or at 9 p.m. on a Sunday in February, and leaves a consultation request or message waiting for your team.
What Julius Answer handles for an accounting firm
New-client consultations
It offers up to three open times and books the caller's choice as a request for one-tap approval. With Google Calendar connected, a time you're already booked is never offered, and approved consultations appear on that calendar.
The need, in the caller's words
"I'm opening an LLC and need the books set up." "It's my first year with 1099 income." You also hear how they found you, so you can tell which referrals bring in work.
Existing clients
Routed by your rules: payroll questions to one person, bookkeeping clients to another. If nobody is free it takes a message, turns "call me before noon" into a due time and reminds you when it comes due.
Answers from your own information
Documents to bring, tax-season hours, holiday closures, drop-off policy and any fees you've written down. Asked something you haven't covered, it says so, takes a message and saves the question so you answer it once.
When a caller speaks Spanish or another language, it replies in that language, and your notes still arrive in English.
Deadlines, advice questions and other calls
Each call is handled by what the caller says, so a response due tomorrow reaches someone tonight and a question about next year's bookkeeping waits for a consultation.
| What the caller says | How Julius Answer responds |
|---|---|
| "The filing is due tomorrow" or "I have to respond to this notice by Friday" (with Friday two days away) | Flags it urgent. Puts the caller through to the person you've chosen for deadline calls, and sends an urgent alert by email and Slack if nobody answers. |
| "My letter says I have 30 days to reply" | Not urgent: books a consultation or takes a message that includes the date. |
| "Can I deduct my car?" or "Should I file jointly?" | Explains that it can't give tax or financial advice and offers a consultation or a message for an accountant. |
| "Is my return done?" or "Did you get my documents?" | Puts the client through to their preparer or takes a message. It won't read stored details to a caller it can't verify. |
| "What do you charge for a return?" | Answers only from the fees in your information. If the caller says they were quoted a different price before, it flags the question instead of guessing. |
| Software sales calls, robocalls, wrong numbers | Handled politely, without ringing anyone on your team. |
Example: a new-client call on a February evening
A shortened example of a first-time caller reaching a small tax practice after hours. The call opens with the firm's name and a note that the caller has reached an AI assistant and that the call is recorded.
Hi, I started freelancing last year and I've never filed with a 1099. Can I write off my home office?
I can't give tax advice, but one of the accountants can go through that with you at a consultation. In a sentence, what would you like help with?
Getting this year's return done, with freelance income for the first time.
Got it. How did you hear about the firm?
My neighbor is a client.
I can offer Thursday at 9 a.m., Thursday at 5 p.m. or Saturday at 10 a.m. Which suits you best?
Saturday at 10.
Saturday at 10 is requested, and the firm will confirm it. I have your number as 720-555-0163. Is that right?
An illustrative example. Your receptionist uses your firm's name, services, hours and fees.
Getting through the busy season
The weeks before the April deadline need more capacity, not a different setup. Three things matter most.
- Calls at the same time. The plan sets how many calls are answered at once: 1 on Starter, 3 on Pro and 10 on Business, so pick the one that matches how many calls come in together in March.
- Plan changes. You can switch plans in the console whenever you like: move up when the season starts and back down when it ends. Extra-minute packs, from $25 for 100 minutes, never expire if you'd rather stay put.
- Forwarding only what you miss. Send calls your front desk doesn't pick up (*71 plus the number on Verizon and most landlines), so staff still answer when they can.
As an illustration: a three-preparer firm taking 12 calls each weekday in March, averaging 3 minutes, uses about 12 × 3 × 22 = 792 minutes that month, within Pro's 1,000. At 3 calls a day in July it uses about 3 × 3 × 22 = 198 minutes, within Starter's 300.
| Feature | Starter | Pro | Business |

| Monthly price | $79 | $199 | $399 |
| Yearly price (two months free) | $790 | $1,990 | $3,990 |
| Call minutes included | 300 | 1,000 | 3,000 |
| Effective price per minute | $0.26 | $0.20 | $0.13 |

What it collects, and what stays with your firm
Julius Answer gathers enough for an accountant to decide when to call back, and reads the number and any email address back to confirm them:
- The caller's name, best number and, if they offer it, an email address.
- What they need help with, in a sentence, and how they heard about the firm.
- Any filing deadline in the next day or two, and when they'd like a call back.
Engagement letters, identity checks, documents and fee quotes stay with your firm's own process. Caller details stay out of email summaries by default, and card numbers and passwords are never stored. Every caller becomes a client record in the built-in CRM, so later you can ask plain-English questions such as "Which new callers this month asked about bookkeeping?"
Connecting it to your other tools
There is no native integration with practice management or tax software. Each call can send a signed webhook to Zapier, Make or any app that takes one, urgent messages can go to a Slack channel with one click, and you can download every call and caller as a CSV file at any time.
Answer every caller, even in April
Your first 7 days are free. Forward the firm's line and let Julius Answer book consultations while you prepare returns.
Frequently asked questions
Will the AI receptionist answer callers' tax questions?
Only factual ones from your firm's information, such as hours, what to bring to an appointment or the fees you've listed. It never gives tax or financial advice: asked whether an expense is deductible or which filing status to use, it says it can't advise and offers a consultation or a message for an accountant.
Can it tell clients whether their return has been filed?
No. Julius Answer has no connection to your tax software and never reads stored details back to a caller it can't verify. It puts the client through to their preparer, or takes a message with a call-back time if nobody is free.
What does it treat as urgent for a tax practice?
A deadline in the next day or two, such as a filing deadline or a response due tomorrow. Those calls are flagged urgent for your team and trigger an alert. A deadline weeks away is handled like any other consultation request or message.
Can it keep up with calls in the weeks before the April deadline?
Calls answered at the same time depend on the plan: 1 on Starter, 3 on Pro and 10 on Business. You can move up a plan when the season starts and back down when it ends, or add extra-minute packs that never expire.
Are client details kept out of email?
Yes, by default. Email summaries leave out the caller's details, and your staff read them in the console with their own logins. Julius Answer never stores card numbers or passwords. It does not hold a SOC 2 report; see our security page.
Does it connect to my practice management or tax software?
Not natively. Each call can send a signed webhook to Zapier, Make or any app that accepts one, so consultation requests can reach your practice software or a spreadsheet. Everything can also be downloaded as CSV.
